Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor on Saturday said that India's stand on Iran has remained consistent and the decision on Iran has been taken keeping in mind that they are a signatory of the non-proliferation treaty.

He was responding to a question that India has toed America's line over the Iran’s nuclear programme in an interview to a news channel he said: “An inkling of India's position at the International Atomic Energy Authority (IAEA) was given by Prime Minster Manmohan Singh during his just concluded US visit, where he clarified that India does not support Iran's nuclear weapons ambitions.”

“As known for many years, we were accused of cowing-towing to the Soviet Union when there was a Soviet Union - so this business of accusing people of cow-towing is very much in the eye of the beholder or in the tongue of the critic,” he said.

“From our point of view we are taking a responsible decision on the basis of our judgement on what is in our sovereign national interest. In some cases that might be a decision that will please a certain capital, or displease another capital - but ultimately the only capital we are concerned about is New Delhi. And our concern here is, how we do the right thing by the people of India,” Tharoor added.

Shashi TaroorBy: saju xavier | 03-Dec-2009 Reply | Forward There is no place for an educated and cultured person like Shashi Taroor in kerala politics. Do you remember what happened to decent people like Dr.KPP Nambiar and Dr.KM Devasia. They were all insulted and humiliated and broken by cheap Kerala politics. 'The best place for Shashi is to work as an ambassador to US or Europe or as the foreign secretary. This will change the image of indian politicans abroad instead of the pan chewing politicians or the drooling pranab Mukherji
zionistBy: free thinker | 02-Dec-2009 Reply | Forward I was wondering why suddenly the Zionist promoting black and Indians ...... it is very clear look at obama and shashi how they are serving usa and zionist and despite their skin color and feature indian when migrate to west they act more western or britiiiiiiish than british them self.
Wake up my dear IndiansBy: Preetha George | 30-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward I am an Indian;(from Kerala)living in Holland. If we need a change in India, specially in Kerala, there is no doubt that we need a personality like Shashi Tharoor. My dear Indians, wake up... People like him should come forward to change our country. I respect Mr. Shashi Tharoor. Please leave him alone.
ShashiBy: Masood | 29-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Just to let you guys know that Shahi means "of or petaining to pee" in Persian while in Turkish, it means cross-eyed. From a person with such a name, not much can be expected. I don't even want to discuss the last name. "we have it, but you should not have it" attitude towards other nations is doomed, as it displeases God, the almighty who created the earth and the skies in justice.
Masood means "relishing what comes of the anal orifice" in DravidianBy: Devarajaswami | 29-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward And furthermore, dear creature that was born off a donkey's rear end: (a) his name is "shashi" not "shahi", and (b) "shahi"means "king" in Persian. Clearly you know neither Persian nor English. Murdering, butchering animals, preaching to Hindus about God and justice. Not gonna work here, bonehead.
Iran is nor against IndiaBy: OldTimer | 29-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward I totally against animals like Tharoor who acting against Indian%u2019s neighbors. Indian%u2019s best interest is to be united with Asian people rather than helping west to continue their political colonies in Asia. After West took care of Iran it will be India%u2019s turn to be disarmed. Wake up stupid.
