Even as Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit denied having received “any letter” from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA),asking her government to send its comments on the mercy petition of Parliament attack convict Mohd Afzal Guru,Delhi Home Secretary G S Patanaik confirmed having received the communication.

“The Chief Minister was not aware of the latest. We informed her today about the letter from MHA,” Patanaik said.

“I have not received any letter (from the MHA). Maybe the Home Department (of the Delhi government) received it,” said Dikshit today. She was reacting to The Indian Express report on the MHA’s stern reminder to the Delhi government on the Afzal Guru mercy petition. Dikshit, incidentally, also holds the charge of the Home Ministry.

The MHA letter, dated April 27,asked the Delhi government to furnish its views on the mercy petition. “It may seem that a considerable time has since passed but comments of the Delhi government are still awaited despite reminders,” said the letter, addressed to Patanaik.
