Sibal wants media to be accountable too

Speaking at a meeting of Congress workers,Sibal described Team Anna as a group which was not accountable to anyone.

Opposing Team Anna Hazare’s version of the Lokpal Bill on grounds that it went against the basic tenets of the Constitution,Union minister Kapil Sibal on Thursday demanded that the media should also be made accountable.

Speaking at a meeting of Congress workers,Sibal described Team Anna as a group which was not accountable to anyone. He said under Anna’s version of the Bill the Lokpal would not be accountable either to Parliament or the courts as these institutions would be brought under it and hence it went against the basic tenets of the Constitution. He said corruption could be tackled by effectively rectifying the existing system.

Sibal also demanded that the media should be made accountable as reputations were being tarnished by TV channels. The minister said he would take up the issue with the PM,adding that the country could not run smoothly with institutions having no accountability.
