Addressing twin public rallies in Rajasthan on Wednesday, AICC president Sonia Gandhi, lambasted the Vasundhara Raje-led BJP government for poor implementation of Central government schemes and corruption while simultaneously hailing the UPA’s achievements. Gandhi, in meetings in Jhunjunu and Alwar districts, also attacked the BJP’s stance on terrorism claiming that their brand of politics was dividing the country.“The Central government has several schemes to benefit farmers and the poor in Rajasthan and has given the state crores of rupees but the BJP government has barely implemented these schemes. The Rajasthan BJP government has set new records in corruption,” Gandhi said. She also added that only the Congress government was capable of leading Rajasthan on the path of development. Referring to the security situation in the state, Gandhi stated that the government had responded with bullets to farmers agitating for water. “There have been several incidents where the police have fired at the people of the state killing many and wounding more. Why should such a government be brought back to power?” Gandhi asked. Gandhi also stated that keeping the fact that farmers were the backbone of the nation, the UPA government had announced a loan waiver for all debt-ridden farmers earlier this year. Countering the BJP’s national stance on terrorism, Gandhi claimed the BJP was dividing the country with its brand of politics but was soft on its own organisations. “Terrorists have no religion and are against a country and people. The UPA government is dealing with terrorism in the right way. Who are the BJP to talk about terrorism when it was their leaders who escorted terrorists to Afghanistan,” Gandhi stated. Gandhi also greeted Congress candidates from all constituencies in Alwar and Jhunjunu districts and exhorting the people to return the Congress to power.
