The Delhi Police on Tuesday submitted a chargesheet in a city court against Fazul-ur Rehman, alleged gangster and sharp-shooter of don Bablu Srivastava, in an extortion case.
In the chargesheet filed before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police sought prosecution of Rehman, alias Fazlu, and his accomplice Naseem, alias Tanveer, for allegedly committing offences related to extortion and criminal conspiracy.
The police claimed they intercepted an international call made on September 3 this year, whereby extortion demands of Rs 12 crore as protection money were made to the head of Parsvnath Developers and Builders, and two other Delhi-based businessmen, Nitin Seth and Ashok Gupta.
The police said the surveillance of mobile phone records also revealed that Naseem was constantly in touch with one Mohsin, an aide of Dawood Ibrahim, who assisted them in making the extortion demands.
Taking cognizance of the offence, the court has fixed December 16 as the date for consideration of charges against the two accused.
Naseem was arrested in October this year from the Inderlok area here, while Rehman was apprehended from Sonauli near the Indo-Nepal border in August 2006. Rehman had fled to Nepal and had set up a base in Dubai in 1997, from where he allegedly carried out abductions. Mohsin, who is alleged to be in Dubai currently, is yet to be arrested.
