In a development that has sent shockwaves across the sports community,a Bengali TV channel today claimed to have carried out a sting operation in which Sourav Ganguly’s Kolkata-based restaurant was allegedly being used as a pick-up joint on weekends. A local TV news channel,Channel 10,claims to have exposed a “sleaze racket” that was allegedly being run out of the third floor lounge bar of the Park Street restaurant jointly owned by the Ganguly brothers — called Sourav’s. The channel is playing visuals of what it claims are showing dance girls “negotiating with customers” of the restaurant’s disco.

According to the channel, the organisers of Sourav’s have been running weekend late-night dance shows at the lounge bar, where an agent has been allegedly setting up the girls with customers in what is being termed as a case of “flesh trade”.

While members of the Ganguly family is not taking any calls,Sourav’s elder brother Snehasish told mediapersons that the restaurant is licensed to host disco sessions. However, the Ganguly family couldn’t be contacted on the “sleaze racket” allegation. The channel aired comments of Jawed Shamim,DC (DD),in which he reportedly says that the Gangulys’ restaurant doesn’t have the requisite permit to play host to dance sessions. Later on,however, the top cop refused to comment on the matter when contacted by this paper.

CAB joint-secretary Biswarup Dey told The Indian Express that he isn’t in a position to remark since the case has nothing to do with cricket administration and the Kolkata Maidan.
