'Peshawar has been burning much more and much worse than Mumbai did.'

A year after the terrorist attacks in Mumbai that killed nearly 180 people, most Pakistanis have little or nothing to say about the carnage that shook India.

Leading newspapers were silent on the tragedy and so were Pakistanis who are active in the virtual world.

Except for an odd comment on social networking website Facebook, most Pakistanis were unusually quiet.

"Remembering the victims of 26/11," read a comment by journalist Mehmal Sarfraz on her homepage. Though the comment was welcomed by her Indian friends, her fellow citizens were not exactly happy.

"With all due respect, so many more people die in our own country every day. How many people remember the victims of Peshawar? That has been burning much more and much worse than Mumbai did. For a minute I think people need to stop blowing 26/11 out of proportion. How is it that we don't pay as much tribute to the victims of the war against militancy in Pakistan," commented Qudsia Aziz Rana.

Rana’s comment seemed to sum up the mood of most Pakistanis, who do not want India to blame their country for the attacks.

"Stop blaming Pakistan for every attack! If few people are bad that doesn't mean the whole country is bad! It is not that Pakistan is supporting terrorism. Pakistan is also a victim of it." reads a post by Mujtaba Husain, the creator of "Pakistan against Terrorism" group.

Not a word on the Mumbai attacks was posted by cyber-buffs active in the blogosphere.

    ... contd.

Who is brainwashed ? really ?By: Simurgh | 30-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward There is a common strain here that Pakistan deserves its fate because their own home grown alleged terror has come to haunt them now! Fact is McChrystal acknowledges there are 3 insurgencies. The TTP thats butchering Pakistanis is NOT the original Taliban who are Pak sympathetic. There are active negotiations going on b/w Mullah Omar and US via Saudi Arabia and ISI( your favourite). IF teh above sentiment that Pak deserves this fate of their own accord then is outright false. The Original Mullah Omar faction never did anything against India. and the new TTP is also not doing anything against India ....the writing on the wall is very clear. You guys can repeat these lies adnauseum to appease and stoke your own anti-pakistanism all you want ....but know this we know you drink deception laced Koolaid. Who is brain washed now ? Dhanevaad sarakaar ji !! :-)
think people think !! By: simurgh | 29-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Samtani ji ..heres the conundrum alright ? 1)Can you name a single benefit reaped by Pakistan for perpetrating 26/11? A nation that is much maligned by western media, stand isolated in the international community would only isolate itself and no tangible tactical strategic benefits ...period. 2) if you say the conspiracy ran so high up the chain of command "WHY" is it the US rewarding Pakistan with US tax payers money during Mushy tenure and now Gilani/Zardari ? Think about it !! We are not asking you to love us ....no love lost here b/w the two nations but think about it if only you could see through the clouded mindset on Anti-pakistanism ! You dont owe us a damn thing but you owe yourself to think clearly for your own good.
lets grieve for our own then !! By: Simurgh | 29-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Pakistani attitude is nuanced and indicative of the fact that joining the cult of 26/11 explicitly makes them reactive of the broader politics at play here. The message for Pakistani masses is clear join in condemnation of Indian losses but undermine the everyday losses of pakistani lives and that seems convoluted and obfuscated. For all knee jerk Indians who say let Pakistanis die since Pakistanis deserve this for sleeping with the very militants we coddled. I say, we Pak did it in cohoots with US, so who is coddling the US now? How about them apples babies ? We would support efforts by India to create a monument where Mumbai is commemorated annually, lighting candles and reading out the names of the dead akin to Holocaust victims. But its disgraceful that media and Indian nationalists would milk this event as a policy tool against Pakistan. Any loss of live is a terrible thing, but for now lets just bemoan our own dead shall we !!
Mumbai 26/11By: Haresh Samtani | 28-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward What Mian Sahib Rana does not remember is that Pehawar and other bombings are the RESULT of Pakistan's ill fated policy of Conspiracy and Collusion with the Terrorists which has finally come home to roost to bite themselves. These were not commited by India NOR directed by any elements of our Army,Intelligence Services OR amy members of our Government. The DIFFERENCE is Mumbai 26/11 WAS directed by Elements within your ISI,elements of the Pakistani Army(and not just the Retired ones either!)at least WITH the Complicit and Tacit KNOWLEDGE of some elements of the Pakistan Government(if not the ACTUAL Involvement).THEREIN, Mian Rana lies the Difference.
Think deeper why the hatred is being fed to the brains of people of this sub-continentBy: Human being living in Indian subcontinet | 27-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward I believe avg pakistani is deprived of true education.. for last 60 yrs they have been fed with wrong informations.. Intelligence level has gone to stooping level.. even the highest level people are not able to understand the real things.. Mushy never understand the real issues or is enslaven in thoughts with religious and global constraints which prevent him to find truth..
