The recent announcement by Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal that all the 22-odd state boards in the country had agreed to have a uniform syllabi in science and mathematics for Classes XI and XII from the next academic session has been given thumbs up by the city residents.
Students have also given their affirmation to the decision to conduct a single entrance test from 2013 which will help create a level playing field for all students who take the numerous post-school national entrance tests to various educational institutions.
Talking to Newsline,Akshay,a Class IX student,said,It is a welcome step. At least we will not longer have to prepare for half-of-dozen competitive exams. I feel so relaxed now.
For Harminder Singh Virdi,a Class X student,said,It is a good step. I wish they had put high school students in the ambit too.
A parent Parampal Singh said,Hats off to academics for the historical decision. This will save children as well as parents from unnecessary harassment. Earlier,students used to prepare
for different exams and syllabus was very vast.
Sanjeev Thapar,Principal,Government Model Senior Secondary School,PAU,said,It is for goodthat all the students from different boards will now study the same syllabus for science and mathematics and will appear in one competitive exam. This would help them concentrate more.
R S Gill,principal,Guru Nanak Public School,Sarabha Nagar,and Director of Sahodaya Schools Complex,Ludhiana,said,It is appreciable as parents will not have to run from post to pillar for admission of their wards in professional courses.
