Pakistani terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab is suffering from stomach ulcer and was being treated by a jail doctor,a special court trying him in 26/11 terror attack case was informed on Thursday.
As the court was recording evidence of a witness,Kasab stood up in the dock and complained to judge M L Tahaliyani that he was suffering from stomach pain.
Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam informed the court that Kasab had a similar complaint some time back and was examined by a jail doctor who had diagnosed it as ulcer.
The judge then asked Kasab whether he wanted to go to his cell,to which the accused said,”yes”.
However,Nikam said the witness in the box was waiting to identify the accused and prayed that Kasab may be sent to the jail after the exercise of identification was over.
The witness,Prashant Marde, investigation officer, then identified Kasab saying he was placed in his custody after the gunman’s arrest on November 26 last year.
The judge asked Kasab to return to his cell and assured him that he would instruct the jail doctor to examine him once again and prescribe medicines.
“It appears that Kasab is unwell and needs treatment,” the judge remarked before asking him to leave the court.
Inspector Marde, deposing before the court, described the nature of investigation done by him in the Girgaum Chowpatty case in which Kasab was captured and his companion Abu Ismael was shot dead.
He also mentioned the arrests of two other accused Faheem Ansari and Sabauddin Ahmed after the November 26 terror attacks. The duo are charged with preparing maps of target spots and handing them over to conspirators.
He further said Kasab’s statement had been recorded and panchnamas drawn for articles seized following Kasab’s arrest.
Another witness,a doctor, identified bullets fired by Kasab from his AK-47 rifle in the firing incident at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus on November 26 last year. The bullets were recovered from bodies of the victims.
Dr V M Ajgaonkar told special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam that bullets had been fired from a close distance.
