Suspected H1N1 patient dies in Surat

A 47-Year-old suspected patient of swine flu died at the New Civil Hospital (NCH) in Surat on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Jayshanker Mishra,a resident of Pandesara Chikuwadi,who worked as a dyeing master in a textile factory at Salabatpura.

Mishra was admitted to Nirmal Hospital on the Ring Road on Saturday evening after he complained of fever with cold and cough.

When doctors examined his case history,he was found to be suffering from pneumonia. He was referred to the NCH on Monday with swine flu symptoms and kept in the isolation ward there.

His blood samples were sent to B J Medical College in Ahmedabad for tests. While the reports were awaited,Mishra breathed his last this morning. New Civil Hospital dean Dr M K Wadhel said,“Mishra was a suspected swine flu patient. We are awaiting test reports of over 80 suspected patients.”

Mishra,who belonged to Gorakhpur district in Uttar Pradesh,is survived by wife Subhadra Mishra,and three children— Prashant (17),Vishal (13) and daughter Priyanka (14). His son Prashant said,“My father had not visited any other state in the recent past… He had complained of cold and cough,and was a diabetic patient.”
