Suzlon Group, the wind energy major, has become the second company globally after Google Inc to power its IT server using renewable energy.

Out of the 150 KW that it produces out of the wind turbine, solar and photovoltaic panels at the global headquarters of Suzlon Group at Hadapsar here,30 per cent is used to power its IT server.

Its headquarters-Suzlon One Earth- a project carried out by Synefra Engineering and Construction (a Tanti Group Company) had recently bagged the ‘Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) platinum rating’ from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Indian arm of the US Green Building Council.

JR Tanti, managing director,Synefra Engineering and Construction said the Suzlon communication server is hosted in data center at One Earth. “The e-mail facilities for all Suzlon users, domestic as well as international, are routed through this server. Since the server is on ghreen energy it does not contribute to generation of Carbon Dioxide,” he said. Also,Suzlon ITFM team has a system in place to dispose e-waste through authorized e-waste processors. “Nearly 30 per cent is used in the IT server while 70 per cent of the green energy produced in the campus is used for external lighting. We have installed LED lights for 100 per cent external lighting. Out of the 150 KW produced 90 KW is produced by the 18 on site wind turbines,90 KW from solar and 35 KW photovoltaic panels,” said Tanti, who recently received the LEED rating citation (One Earth achieved 57 points out of 58 applied) in Washington DC from HE Meera Shankar,Ambassador of India to the United States

According to Tanti,Synefra was able to achieve an overall 30 – 40 per cent reduction in operating costs due to 40 per cent energy saving and 30 per cent water saving solutions. “ The entire water consumption in the facility is met through rain water harvesting. Also,we ensure 100 per cent recycling of water,The waste produced is segregated at the source and the organic waste is used for the landscaping,” he said.

Developed on an area of 41,000 sq.mtr (10.13 acres),One Earth,is one of the largest green building projects in the India with a built up of over 8,00,000 sq ft.

Synefra achieved the highest LEED rating for its whole-building approach to sustainability by attaining key areas of human and environmental health, sustainable site development, efficient water, energy and waste methods, materials and resource selection, indoor environmental quality and most important innovation and design processes.
