Tata Consultancy Services,Indias largest software company,is getting a new chief executive officer. The Tatas have named TCS chief operating officer and executive director N Chandrasekaran as the CEO designate of the company.
The companys board has approved Chandrasekarans appointment as CEO and managing director after the retirement of S Ramadorai on October 6,2009.
The present CEO and MD S Ramadorai will hold the post for five years from August 9,2004 to August 8,2009. His term with the company has been extended till October 5,2009,subject to the approval of shareholders,the company said in a statement.
Chandrasekaran has been at helm of several key strategic transitions in TCS including expanding its business portfolio to include BPO,infrastructure and consulting services. Under his leadership,TCS pioneered the creation of its unique Global Network Delivery Model (GNDM) and ventured into new markets including Europe,China and Latin America.
Ramadorai has been associated with the company for the past 38 years. Joining as a trainee engineer,Ramadorai took over as CEO in 1996 and has been instrumental in building TCS to a $6 billion global software and services company.
Ratan Tata is the chairman of TCS.
