  • Spanish authorities on Monday conveyed to India that the identity of two Indians — who along with 12 Pakistanis were held in connection with a terror plot — are being verified.

The Spanish Government said two Indians along with 12 Pakistanis had been arrested on suspicion of planning a terror attack in Barcelona. Their identities were not revealed.

Based on what the Spanish Interior Minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba said on Sunday, India has sought consular access to its nationals, and sources in the Ministry of External Affairs said it would come through in a day or two. The Indian mission is in constant touch with the Spanish authorities. Since the investigations are in process, the names of the two are not yet revealed.

“We are trying to get more information on the case,” Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta told The Indian Express.

Meanwhile, the CBI has also moved through Interpol to verify the nationality of the two accused.
