Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan has locked horns with Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor over his pet peeve — ‘the Centre’s apathy towards Kerala’. If the Marxist veteran’s poser to Tharoor was during a public function, the latter logged on to Twitter to retort.

Inaugurating the title-deed distribution in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, Achuthanandan had said, “This time, I had come prepared to give a fitting reply to Tharoor. If he were present here, I would have asked him about what assistance had the Centre given to the state to fight the monsoon calamity.”

Tharoor’s riposte came on Twitter, where he said, “For those asking about Kerala CM’s comments, I believe development trumps politics and I will be glad to applaud positive action whichever party does it... “But, regretting that the Kerala government has failed to spend 90 per cent of the Centre’s MG-NREGS funds allotted to the state is just factual, not political.”

Realit shoud be acceptedBy: Adv.Alby Raymond Parackal | 27-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward When reality shuts at the door steps why should the Kerala Chief Minister shudder. Everybody knows that all Grama Panchayats in the state do any work only with the Central funds available to them. But the present State Governments track records, till date, shows poor performance with those Central funds; and of course, the hapless masses are at the receiveing end.Mr. Sahshi Tharoor shows his shrewdness in the comments and it might not hit Mr. Achuthanandhan, a man of masses. but be sportive with the term left for governance.

NREG partying by all partiesBy: Prof (Dr.) Rama kumar,V. | 27-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Even the 20% NREG funds spent are mostly squandered on leveling, forced road widening or cleaning of drains. Work gets washed off in rain. %u201CKudumbashree%u201D work and tilling suffer as workers leave to avail NREG meant to provide earning when earning lowers. No complaint as funds dole across party lines. Workers meet at 10AM, work till noon, often have %u2018common meal%u2019 and leave as organizer allows. A retired engineer certifies, to complete paper work. The solutions are,- a) Plan work as per need of community. b) Tally feasibility technically & environmentally c) Sort %u2018jobs%u2019 that can go with machine work d) Open NREG when %u2018farm labor demand%u2019 is low e) Try jobs like,- i) %u2018Clean%u2019 village ponds when men are out of job or housewives and adult children are free. Hire a pump and truck. ii) Plant Bamboo shoots and fodder slips along, canal banks & wet land to reduce silt. Products support small endeavours iii) Dig pits on drains (flow lines) to reduce water loss & collect sand.
VSA, Left By: Supriyo Das | 26-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward VS Achutanandan may be a very honest person, as many senior citizen of Kerala may vouch for, but its high time, that he alongwith his party realizes that their ideology is a passe. And since their ideology defined their existence, Left Front and their practitioners have ceased to exist. They are obsolete. As for Shashi Tharoor, there is something hopefully to look forward to - at the very least we have a smart politician who is a good orator and amongst other things, knows to be at the right place at the right time - e.g. at Nariman House today. So lets make way for the supposedly new order. The Left do not believe in God, else, they'd know, that the "old order changeth yeilding place to the new...& God fullfils himself in many ways, lest one good custom shoudl corrupt the whole world".
Why we can not make Tharoor as our CMBy: Rajan | 26-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward I feel Indian national Congress should make Tharoor as CM of kerala in the next election. Hope rahul gandhi support this proposal. Let Tharoor be the CEO of Kerala. Avoid Chandy, Chennithala and other tripical congress members for this position. I feel Tharoor can make Kerala the best and an example state in India.
Tharoor as CMBy: Supriyo Das | 26-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Yes & No. Despite being an outsider to Kerala am aware of Kerala's issues. But as an Indian first, I would think that Mr. Tharoor is needed at a national level at this time, more so, cuz in foreign ministry we have little hope on SM Krishna. While Nirupama Rao and others make a great team - at the present moment Shashi Tharoor being in that ministry is crucial for addressing the geopolitical issues & challenges our country faces
