After conducting a high profile campaign to win from this Lok Sabha seat, former UN diplomat and Congress candidate Shashi Tharoor is back on the streets again, this time to give it a clean look by removing his election posters off city walls.

The former UN Under Secretary, along with a group of supporters, was seen tearing down his posters in some parts of the city.

"This is a beautiful city. I don't want to disfigure the walls with pictures of politicians after the elections. I want to set a model by removing the posters," Tharoor said.

Tharoor, who is pitted against CPI's P Ramachandran Nair said the action did not mean that he would compel others to follow suit. "Anyway I have decided to remove all the posters of UDF from the walls," he said.

During his campaign, Tharoor had said if elected, he would work out a plan to make Thiruvananathapuram the global centre of excellence in higher education like the US city of Boston, besides developing tourism and providing momentum to pending schemes like the Vizhinjam project.

It was a Conscience Voting !!! Appreciate all those who voted for Mr.TharoorBy: Shibu Mammen | 21-May-2009 Reply | Forward It’s a terrible feeling to be in the voting booth and to feel like you’re tossing a coin, hoping that the individual you’re voting for stands for the right values, Am sure Mr.Tharoor will bring innovative changes in this city.
Congratulations to Mr. TharoorBy: Anil | 18-May-2009 Reply | Forward As a native and voter from Thiruvananthapuram, I welcome the election of a towering intellectual like Mr. Tharoor as our representative to Parliament. It is indeed a shame that world class higher education has been neglected in Thiruvananthapuram in the recent years. Every Southern state capital now has world class institutes like IITs and IIScs, except for Kerala. Tharoor's promise to bring world class higher education to Thiruvananthapuram is very positive and I wish him and my fellow constituents best of luck in that.
build schools with clean toilets not MBA collageBy: Vijay | 16-May-2009 Reply | Forward Its time that the government builds quality schools (with clean toilets). Schools which need to be run like charity instructions are run like business, charging huge donations and exorbitant fees. Please nationalize all schools and subsidize fees.
