The CBI has recommended disciplinary action against top Air India officials in an alleged corruption case of August 2010.

Three of them — Deepak Brara, then regional director (now executive director),A Jayachandran, then officiating general manager (finance),and Vijay Paul, then general manager (commercial) — are serving and in consideration for promotions, claimed sources. Five others have been recommended to be debarred from post-retirement benefits.

The accused had allegedly hired Rao Tours and Travels Private Limited as passengers sales agent from 2002 to 2006 and granted it credit facilities for booking air tickets even after it defaulted payments. They allegedly misused their positions and rejected suggestions to keep a bank guarantee equivalent to the credit facilities. This resulted in a loss of Rs 7.11 crore.
