A former divisional commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, Rayees Kachroo, arrested almost seven months ago, escaped from Pulwama court premises in south Kashmir on Tuesday afternoon. Police and security forces have launched a massive manhunt to nab the top militant commander.
“Kachroo was being taken to the district court in Pulwama for hearing from the Srinagar Central Jail and was being escorted by a havildar and three constables,” said Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Niyaz Mehmood.
Mehmood said they were questioning the two constables to know exactly how Kachroo escaped, as he was brought to court handcuffed. Kachroo, a top IED expert of the Hizbul Mujahideen, was responsible for killing around two dozen securitymen in south Kashmir.
