Transport hub,commercial centre to come up at Chandigarh airport

The transport hub will have the local bus station from where passengers can take AC buses operated by the Chandigarh Administration. There would be a metro station apart from taxi as well as auto service. The passengers getting off the flights would have a couple of transportation options to choose from. This transport hub will also be equipped with retail facilities,a food court and restaurants to facilitate passengers. According to the master plan,an apron will be constructed along with adequate number of taxi tracks connecting the runway to the apron. The AAI will coordinate with the Indian Air Force to construct parallel taxi tracks in order to minimise the runway occupancy time. Based on the demand,runways will be extended.

Meanwhile,the officials from the Chandigarh Administration informed that they would gradually increase the number of operators running AC cabs,non-AC cabs as well as radio autos in the city.

Speaking to Newsline,a senior official from Administration said,“With the international airport coming up,we expect lot of traffic in terms of passengers and one major facility they would expect is good transportation. We intend to make all choices available be an autorickshaw,train,bus or a cab,everything would be available to the passengers.”

Besides transport hub out of the land given by the Air Force,a patch shall also be used to construct a hospitality centre that would include a luxury hotel and a convention centre. Speaking to Newsline,a senior official from the airport here in the city said,“A luxury hotel is a must as there are many who would visit the city for business purpose for a couple of days and thus this hotel would be ideal for them. Also they can hold their business meetings in the hotel and will not be required to look around for other places in the city.”
