Trinamool MP backs Lalgarh movement

Trinamool MP from Jadavpur, singer Kabir Suman, has once again put party chief Mamata Banerjee in a spot.

Trinamool MP from Jadavpur, singer Kabir Suman, has once again put party chief Mamata Banerjee in a spot. In a a recently recorded album,Suman has openly supported the Lalgarh movement and demanded the release of tribal leader Chatradhar Mahato.

Mamata has declared that the Trinamool does not endorse the ideas of Suman, who she has once again described as a guest in the party.

The party does not approve of the ideas expressed by him. He is a singer and he has his own ideas. There are some guests in the party. He is one of them, said Mamata said. She said her partys stand on Lalgarh is diametrically opposite to what Suman has expressed in his album. His is an individual opinion, our party opinion is collective.

While Mamata has insisted on the deployment of the Army in the Maoist-dominated districts of West Midnapore,Purulia and Bankura,Sumans songs try to rally support for the movement and criticise the role of the state.

The incident comes barely a couple of months after Mamata had to pacify Sumans rebellious outbursts against the party, when he alleged that a section of party leaders were interfering in his functioning as an MP.
