The Uttar Pradesh Government has ordered a Crime Branch-CID probe into the alleged rape and murder of a teenaged girl at Nighasan police station in Lakhimpur District.
“At a high-level meeting late last night,it was decided that the probe into the death of the girl should be handed over to the CB-CID,” a senior police officer said.
The CB-CID has been asked to submit its report within a week”s time,the officer said. An FIR has been lodged against a sub-inspector and two policemen for tampering with evidence. The government has also ordered a fresh post-mortem of the victim by a panel of doctors from other districts. Meanwhile,the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has also decided to send a probe team after it took suo motu cognisance of media reports alleging that a teenage girl was raped and killed at police station. Earlier,Divisional Commissioner Lucknow Prashant Dwiwedii said: We have taken a strong view of the evidence being tampered with at the crime scene.
Whenever there is any kind of crime,the place should be left undisturbed. In this case it was not done so and we have therefore lodged an FIR against a sub-inspector and two other constables,” he added.
Missing since Friday evening,the girl was found hanging from a tree inside the premises of Nighasan Police Station. The victim”s mother in her complaint had alleged that the girl was raped and murdered.
