Chandigarh, October 8: The UT Administration is going to face a serious crunch of officials in the coming few weeks with some of the key officials on their way out.

While UT Director (Tourism) and Director Public Relations, the Haryana Civil Services (HCS) officer Vivek Atray will be relinquishing his charge next week, as he joins a consulting firm Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC); Raji P Srivastava, the Punjab cadre IAS officer who was holding the charge of Special Secretary (Education, Finance ) besides being Director Public Instructions (Colleges) will be joining as Director, Census, after her repatriation to her parent cadre.

Atray, who had received an official nod from his parent cadre — Haryana — will be proceeding on a three-year long leave from the next week. Atray remained as Director (Information Technology) from 2000 to 2006 and also worked as Director (Tourism, Public Relations and Technical Education), during his eight years term, in two stints with the UT Administration.

On the other hand, UT Chief Engineer SK Jaitley sustained a serious hip-fracture on Monday when he tumbled during the inauguration of Le Corbusier Centre here in Chandigarh. Jaitley is admitted at Government Multi-specialty Hospital, Sector 32, and is likely to be operated on Thursday. According to the senior administration officials, Jaitley is likely to take at least six months to recover from the injury. Kishanjeet Singh has been given an additional charge of the UT Chief Engineer, for the time being.

The Punjab Government had already sent a panel of four officers to replace Raji P Srivastava. While the panel includes two officers of the 1993 batch, Anurag Verma and RK Rangta; Jaspal Singh belongs to the 1992 batch. Another officer Vikas Pratap, who also figured in the panel of officers for the post of CITCO Managing Director, belongs to the 1994 batch. The post of CITCO Managing Director is vacant since the last couple of months, ever since the Punjab cadre IAS officer JS Bir was repatriated to his parent cadre.

“The Administration will definitely miss its senior and competent officers who were holding key positions once they are gone. We are looking for their replacements, but it would take some time,” said UT Home Secy Ram Niwas.
