The Central University in Kashmir was to start classes in 2009,but a tussle between Jammu and the Valley over its location delayed that by a year. And now, protests, shutdown and curfews are threatening to delay it again.

The university planned to begin recruiting faculty by July-end and start classes in August, but Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdul Wahid, who has been forced by the situation to largely operate from his residence, postponed interviews for faculty.

“Interviews for faculty were scheduled for July 10,but with curfews,stone-pelting and so on,we could hardly have conducted them. I have now postponed interview dates to July 16,21 and 25. I do hope things stabilise by then as we are aiming at starting the academic session either by July-end,which now looks unlikely,or early August”,Prof Wahid told said.

The university needs 12-15 faculty members for one semester.
