A month after VAT inspector Keshubha Jadeja committed suicide allegedly after being harassed by his seniors for trying to expose a tax evasion scam,the Jamnagar police have added abetment to suicide section in the chargesheet against the three officials of Jamnagar VAT office. The B-Division police said they have begun the procedure to interrogate Deputy Commissioner Nanginkar,Assistant Commissioner Anil Chaudhary and Inspector Vijay Mehta. Abetment to suicide charge under Section 306 of Indian Penal Code has been added to the complaint registered on October 8. The original complaint clearly mentioned that the victim was given threats by the accused officers, said an official with B-Division. Jadeja (43),who served as VAT inspector,consumed poison in Jamnagar on October 8. He was shifted to a Rajkot-based hospital on October 19 and died due to complications. While the police couldnt register his dying declaration,in a suicide note and a videotap Jadeja had alleged severe harassment by the three accused officials for trying to expose Rs 100 crore tax evasion racket. He had personally posted the suicide note to Jamangar district superintendent of police office,whereas his nephew,Lakhdirsinh,had videotaped his dying declaration in Jamnagar. In both,Jadeja had alleged that the officers ran a racket along with a dozen of companies and influential local lawyers in the city who helped them run the tax evasion racket. Besides,Jadeja had alleged that when he tried to expose the scam,the officers threatened him to implicate him in criminal cases and transfer him outside the district.
