The Gujarat wing of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has reacted sharply to the arrest of VHP Joint Secretary Ashwin Patel. In a statement issued to the media on Saturday, VHP state president Dilip Trivedi and state secretary Kaushik Mehta have decried the arrest.

“When terrorism is rising across the country, by harassing Hindu outfits like this, those in power are only leaving the ground open for the terrorists,” the release read.

“Like in other states, even in Gujarat, some anti-Hindu people in power are using false evidences to harass the organisations like VHP, which work only for creating Hindu awareness,” said the release, adding that the arrest of Ashwin Patel, who has been constantly working against terrorism, would only please the terrorists.

Alleging that Chief Minister Narendra Modi has been appeasing the minorities, the leaders said that the state government is now busy in harassing the Hindu workers like Ashwin Patel.

“The VHP workers are being harassed by the state for the last three years. The VHP activists were arrested during various programmes organised by the Parishad,” the release said further.

The release added that VHP would launch a strong agitation in the days to come to expose the anti-Hindu stance of the government.
