Plans to bring in 10 to 15 double-decker buses from Lucknow-based Tata Marcopolo Motors Ltd
After starting the new city bus service, the Vallabhipur Transportation Cooperative Society Pvt Ltd (ViTCOS) is all set to carry the Tata-tag to Vadodara. With its recent plans of broadening the bus service, ViTCOS might bring in double-decker buses from Lucknow-based Tata Marcopolo Motors Ltd.
The agency recently submitted a memorandum to the city Collector and Municipal Commissioner, seeking permission to bring in the new buses.
“We have already been to the Tata’s manufacturing unit in Lucknow and we think bringing in double-decker buses will help improve the transport situation in the city. Most metro cities are presently using these buses and I think it will be a positive addition to the city. We are just waiting for a positive reply to make a move,” said Haresh Dodhiya, ViTCOS manager.
He added: “The present ViTCOS buses are jam-packed during the peak hours of the day. The problem is that though there are other buses running in the same route, people tend to crowd the first available bus. If we are successful in introducing the double-decker buses, people will have a more comfortable and safer ride.”
With each bus costing anywhere between Rs 50-58 lakh and a capacity to hold about 60 passengers, ViTCOS plans to bring in 10 to 15 double-decker buses in the broader routes of the city in the initial phase. This will include routes like Makarpura, Chhani, New VIP road, Race Course and Old Padra.
The local transit low-floor buses also include other facilities for daily passengers. “The buses are low floored and have other technical amenities that will facilitate the differently-abled,” said Dodhiya.
The ViTCOS bus service presently has over 64 buses running across the city.
