With the arrest of Kim Davy (47),one of the main accused in the sensational Purulia Arms Drop case,officials of the designated CBI court at Bichar Bhavan at Bankshall Court have started preparations for re-opening the case. Davy aka Niels Holcks,a Dutch citizen,is likely to be brought to India for trial.

He had disappeared from Sahara international airport in Mumbai soon after the aircraft from which the arms and ammunition was dropped at Purulia,was grounded. Davy was arrested on Sunday by officials of the Ministry of Justice of Denmark after it agreed to extradite him following a request from India. The case will be restarted six years after Peter Bleach,a British national,was released following efforts by the UK Government. ENS

‘Ready to help fight Naxals’

Allahabad: The Indian Air Force was ready to help fight the Naxalites in Chhattisgarh,or any other insurgency,but the Home Ministry had not yet sent any communiqué to IAF for any such operation,Air Chief Marshal P V Naik said on Monday. “If the Home Ministry wants our assistance,we are ready. But any decision on use of air power to tackle the Naxals must follow a clear strategy to minimise collateral damage,” the Air Force Chief,who is on a two-day visit to the Central Air Command headquarters here,said.

Pay hike,food scheme for C’garh SPOs

Raipur: Launching his ‘Gram swaraj’ campaign from Naxal-infested Bastar,Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Monday announced a hike in the honorarium given to Special Police Officers (SPOs) — local youth recruited to assist forces in anti-Maoist operation — from Rs 2.150 to Rs 3,000 a month. He also said the state would supply 35 kilos of rice every month to the SPOs’ families at one rupee per kilo under the CM’s food security scheme.

Ex-servicemen to train CRPF men

New Delhi: The government will next month recruit about 2,000 ex-servicemen specialised in commando and jungle warfare tactics to impart training to CRPF personnel. Those servicemen,who retired as Sepoy and Havaldar,will be drawn from Army regiments like infantry,mechanised infantry,armoured,artillery,intelligence and engineering Corps. ENS & PTI
