US formally files for Polanski extradition

London: The US formally asked Swiss authorities to extradite Oscar winning director Roman Polanski,who is wanted for having sex with a 13-year-old girl. The Swiss Federal Office of Justice said in a statement that US authorities had asked for Polanski’s extradition,adding that he might appeal against the decision. “The US Embassy in Bern submitted the formal extradition request… within the deadline of 40 days stipulated under the bilateral extradition treaty,” it said.

LONDON: A 76-year-old British adventurer,whose travels have earlier featured in the BBC radio,is getting ready to explore India on a motorbike. Simon Gandolfi,a writer from Malvern,Worcestershire,is preparing for the five-month trip and plans to spend his 77th birthday in Goa. He said: “It’s what I do. I love to travel and meet new people. I love discovering. “It’s been about 40 years… I want to see,not only what has changed there,but how I have changed.”
