A’bad Rising: 20,000 to pledge to stop crime against women

Working towards a city free of gender violence, as many as 20,000 Ahmedabad residents will come together on February 14 and take a pledge to stop verbal, physical and psychological violence against women and also perform garba together.

As a part of the global movement — one billion rising in which 184 countries will participate — as many as 20,000 people are expected to be a part of "Ahmedabad Rising" campaign, which will take place at 5-7 pm at the sports ground, Gujarat Vidyapith.

Mallika Sarabhai, a member of the core committee behind the campaign, said, "We chose garba not just because it is the traditional dance of Gujarat, but also because it is one of the only dances where men do not lead; rather no one leads. And that is how the society should be."
