  • 1976: The play was adapted into a film starring Om Puri and Mohan Agashe in Marathi

    1979: The play was invited to a drama festival in Berlin. This caused an uproar again and many historians, performing artists, and politicians protested against it being performed overseas. Shiv Sena activists even tried to get a stay order. It was only allowed to travel after filmmaker Satyajit Ray requested Mrs Gandhi to let it be performed abroad

    1986: The play toured the US

    1992: Performances in Marathi were stopped

    1995: Former president of Theatre Academy, Anil Joglekar, revived the play
