The name Quartz comes from the Saxon word ‘Querklufterz’ which meant cross vein ore and the name Rutile is derived from the Latin word ‘Rutilus’ meaning red,the colour in which rutilated quartz is most commonly found. Rutilated quartz is also found in red bronze and black though it is the golden hues that are most sought after.
