A month after arrest of Desh Raj, CBI yet to record Anokh Singh’s statement

A special CBI court on Saturday has extended the judicial custody of the suspended Superintendent of Police (SP) City and Headquarters, Desh Raj Singh. The case has been adjourned till December 1.

Almost a month after the arrest of the suspended IPS officer, the CBI has not yet recorded the statements of the prime witness and the complainant, Inspector Anokh Singh. Also the CBI sleuths in Chandigarh have not received any response about the evidences that were sent to the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL), Delhi.

The IPS officer was caught red handed by the sleuths of CBI following a statement of the Station House Officer (SHO), Police Station, Sector 26, Anokh Singh. On the night intervening October 18-19, a trap was laid by the CBI at the IPS officer's Sector 23 residence where he had demanded an illegal gratification of one lakh.

Singh had approached CBI, on October 15, alleging that SP Desh Raj asked for a sum of 5 lakh from him to exonerate him from some departmental inquiries that were initiated on complainants of Desh Raj. The deal was finalized for Rs 2 lakh Inspector Anokh Singh then gave a written complaint to CBI on October 12 stating about Raj's alleged demand.

As per the alleged conversations which the complainant had recorded, Desh Raj had asked for a sum of Rs 2 lakh because he "needed" the money. The CBI laid a trap on October 18 and alleged conversations between the accused IPS officer and Anokh Singh were then recorded before and during the trap.
