A new broom sweeps clean: DC’s dos & don’ts to improve functioning

With an aim to streamline the working of the departments under the new Deputy Commissioner's office and to ensure that the officials are available for the public during the working hours, the functioning of the DC office and all the other departments under it has undergone a significant change in the past few days.

Peeved about the frequent complaints from the public that most of the officials are not in office or are attending meetings at the UT Secretariat, an advisory has recently been issued by DC Mohammad Shayin

to all the officials, including ADC, SDMs, Assistant Estate Officer, Land Acquisition Officer, Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Joint Registrar Cooperative Societies, Assistant Labour Commissioner, that anyone going out during the officer hours will have to write in details in a movement register regarding their whereabouts and also inform the Deputy Commissioner either by an SMS or a phone call.

Most of the times it happens that the officers are either busy in meetings in their offices or are at the UT Secretariat for meetings during the public meeting time which is 12 noon to 1.

A senior official on condition of anonymity said, "A lot of changes have been ushered in during the past couple of days to improve the functioning of the offices under the DC, so that the public is not inconvenienced at all and the overall efficiency increases."

Also, to fix accountability for delay in clearing the files, a new system has been put in place wherein every day all the staff members dealing with public files have to fill in details regarding the date they received a file, the day the file was cleared and if the file has taken more than 15 days, then the employee has to give a written explanation regarding the delay.
