A S Bindra, father of Olympic gold-winning shooter Abhinav Bindra, who has been arrested for allegedly defrauding a bank and a finance company, approached a Delhi court on Thursday, seeking bail on the ground that he had already reached a compromise with the complainant.

“The complainant and the applicant (Bindra) have reached a compromise and the same (copy of agreement) is being filed for consent decree,” Bindra stated in a bail plea filed before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ajay Pandey.

Bindra, who was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police on May 13 from his farm house in Zikarpur in Punjab, after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him, could not be brought here as he was hospitalised in Chandigarh.

Bindra, the managing director of Chandigarh-based Punjab Meats Ltd,is accused of cheating IndusInd Bank Ltd and Apple Finance Ltd of Rs 9.31 crore.

A fresh compromise deed has been executed and two demand drafts of Rs 50 lakh each have already been delivered to the finance institutions on May 19,the bail application stated. The court is expected to hear the bail plea on Friday.

IndusInd Bank Ltd had filed a complaint against Bindra and his company in 2007 for allegedly selling land mortgaged with it as security against a loan of Rs 5 crore.

Apple Finance had lodged an FIR at the Parliament Street police station here in 2006 and had accused Bindra, whose company had taken a loan of Rs three crore,of issuing five cheques on an in-operative bank account.

Continuing at the PGI for the sixth day in succession, industrialist A S Bindra, father of Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, spent another day at the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) where a TMT test was performed on him on Thursday. Hospital sources said Bindra had tried to avoid certain medical investigations yesterday including the TMT treadmill tests citing stomach problems. “As Bindra complained of stomachache, certain tests could not be performed on him which are important to declare him medically fit,” said a hospital source. Many people, however, are seeing it as an apparent bid by Bindra to evade his imminent arrest. “It is really strange that so many days have passed and PGI has not been able to ascertain whether Bindra is medically fit or not. Six days is a long time to perform the tests and give a status report,” said a private practitioner. Bindra complained of chest pain on last Thursday when the team of Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing arrested him on charges of cheating, fraud and forgery. He was admitted in GMCH where the ECG performed on him revealed chest pain and ruled out heart attack. He was referred to PGI on Saturday.
