“A great doyen, a pillar and stalwart of the industry has fallen today. His massive contribution is beyond measure. He was a writer of eminence, his humble beginnings being as a journalist. He believed strongly in the morals and ethics of our society and never created anything that was far removed from it. He moved with the times and the social needs of the times. His films depicted facts of life and their presence in our Indian society. He never remained away from the basic ethos of the land, irrespective of the commercial demands and pressures of our very escapist cinema.”

“I had the good fortune to work under his banner in several projects—Zameer, Baghbaan, Baabul, Bhootnath and hopefully there shall be more. All carried strong social messages and despite that still were relevant even in modern times. His contribution to the Industry is immeasurable. We all pray for the departed soul of this great personality.”
