Datawind,the maker of the lowest priced tablet Aakash,has got a shot in the arm with African telecom operator Movicel signing an order for one lakh of the 3G hand-held devices. Movicels CEO Yon Junior inked the deal with Datawind CEO Sunit Singh Tuli on Tuesday over a meeting in Barcelona,which is hosting the Mobile World Congress. The deal was struck in one meeting. I had a look at Aakash,asked my technical team members to examine it and the next moment we were signing the contract, Junior told Indian Express. Disclosing that his company was procuring the 7 inch-tablet at a price of less than $100 per device,Junior said that the tablets will be customised according to the needs of the local people. Movicel delivers mobile services in Angola and is planning to launch 4G FDD-LTE commercial services in 1.8 GHz band in the second quarter of 2012.
