In their last year of school, four girl friends discover who they are. Jiya is the nice daughter of a self-respecting but not too-well-off mom. Pari is spoilt and snooty, and flashes wads of cash. Sanya is rich too, taking the lead from Pari on most matters. And Rakhi is the bubbly, happy one who keeps the gang together.

‘Aamras’, takes its name from the sweet mango dessert Jiya’s ‘aai’ makes for the girls, who bicker and squabble and make up, as BFFs (Best Friends Forever) are wont to.

School stories are not a genre that Hindi cinema has attempted with any success , simply because we don’t seem to have teenage actors who cannot simper. Or not dress like they are aspiring models. Of this lot, only Rakhi seems completely natural, and Jiya shows promise. The other two are too busy trying to act.

The film looks as if it could have been inspired by the mega successful book-turned-into movie series, ‘The Sisterhood of The Travelling Pants’, which is about, what else, four friends coming of age. The good thing about `Aamras’ is that it gives us young adults who are not cloyingly saccharine all the time, but the story-telling and the plot points are interesting only intermittently.
