Aarushi murder: In court, forensic officer describes crime reenactment

Appearing as a prosecution witness in a Ghaziabad court where dentist couple Rajesh and Nupur Talwar are being tried for the 2008 murder of their teenaged daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj, Dr Rajendra Singh, chief scientific officer of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in New Delhi, on Wednesday gave an account of the crime reenactment carried out in November 2010.

"On November 11, 2010, I along with other scientists from CFSL as well as officials from CBI including the investigating officer of the case A G L Kaul went to L-32, Jalvayu Vihar, Noida (the Talwar residence). According to a letter which CFSL received from the then SP, CBI on November 4, 2010, we conducted a scene reenactment," Singh told the court of additional sessions judge Shyam Lal.

He said one constable was made to lie down on a sheet in the corridor of the house. "Two persons were then asked to carry him up to the terrace of the house. Red paint was put on the sheet as well. On the terrace, another person was made to drag the constable 25-30 feet. Signs of the dragging of the body could then be seen. The entire scene was videographed and photographed and made into a report," Singh said.

According to the CBI, the body of Hemraj was dragged to the terrace by the accused. Even on the terrace, the body was dragged to a spot where it would not be easily visible from adjacent terraces, the CBI maintained.

Singh will continue with his deposition on Friday.
