Abasana massacre: Court to pronounce verdict on July 14

  • A fast-track Court of Ahmedabad Rural District is expected to pronounce its judgment on the massacre reported in Abasana village, in April 2002, on July 14. Six people were killed in the massacre, which took place following Godhra train carnage.

    According to the details of the case, six people were killed and their bodies burnt by a mob in Abasana village on April 2, 2002.

    Following the incident, Ahmedabad Rural police arrested around 31 people and chargesheeted them.

    The court proceedings in the case were earlier held in Viramgam. Later, after an application was filed, the trial was shifted to the Ahmedabad Rural Court compound.

    Judge Yogini Upadhyay conducted the trial examining all the witnesses of the prosecution and defence.
