




A student of economics, Kanwal had barely finished her M Phil in the subject when she got selected in the services. Since then it has been “delightful”, as she puts it.
“Especially when people start accepting you for your result-oriented work, it becomes fulfilling,” says the ADC, who who has remained ADC in Bathinda and Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana. According to her, we have graduated as a society to a level where gender is pushed to the background while efficiency becomes the yardstick.
Though pleased with their attitude, she has a word of advice for Ludhianvis, “There needs to be public involvement, especially in managing issues of traffic chaos and cleanliness. It is difficult for a town to evolve without the participation of its residents.”
With two daughters, Penaaz and Hurnoor, and a boy named Ajitesh, she sure has her hands full. “My husband keeps me going with all the help he provides,” she says.
“I want to see this profession getting strengthened technologically. Emphasis should be laid on evidence-based nursing practices,” says Dr Jasbir, who has many national and international conferences to her credit.
Recipient of Mother Teresa award by Omini College, Canada, she has signed partnership with the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, for development of international standard nursing in Punjab.
With a masters in psychiatric nursing, she is an ideal teacher for grooming would-be nurses. Her involvement in this line has encouraged her younger daughter Taman Preet to take it up for a career, while the elder one, Kamal Preet, is a physiotherapist in Boston, USA. Her husband is the divisional head in a leading food processing company. Though quite pleased with her accomplishments so far, she aims at introducing a master’s programme and courses in cardio thoracic and critical care Nursing in her college.
