The election authorities on Monday said that they would probe into the reports that money was allegedly distributed among supporters of SP candidate from Mumbai North-West Abu Asim Azmi.

According to the reports, Azmi's brother Shahed allegedly distributed wads of currency notes among some participants of Azmi's procession before Azmi went to the suburban district collectorate to file his nomination today.

"We are checking the veracity of the reports that Azmi supporters were distributed money during the procession and if needed will take action," an election official said.

Azmi, however, denied the allegation, saying the "question of distributing money does not arise. I don't think such a thing has happened."

Election officials had recently given notices to sitting Congress MP from Mumbai North Govinda for giving money to people outside his Juhu residence on Holi day.
