The police plan to advertise the number by painting it on auto-rickshaws and new DTC buses.

Ever since the Dhaula Kuan gangrape case, the NE Helpline has been asking the Delhi Police to popularise their women helpline number. “Anytime there is a problem, people call up 100. For girls there is a facility of calling 1091 but they are not aware of this facility,” said Madhu Chandra, spokesperson of the NE Helpline.

“We are chalking out the plans. It may take some time,” said a police official.

During Saturday’s meeting,it was also demanded that colonies should keep at least one gate open in the night so that working girls returning late can be dropped at their door steps. “There are cases where women have to be dropped on the main road because colonies close their gates at night. We have decide to ask RWAs to help out,” added Chandra.

A 15-point memorandum was also submitted to the Chief Minister, which included a demand for chalking out stricter guidelines for BPO companies to ensure women staff are dropped home safely.
