The Academic Council meeting held at Delhi University today approved new syllabuses for post-graduate courses to make them suitable for the semester system. The university had passed a resolution in 2008 incorporating the semester system for all postgraduate courses from 2009. Abha Dev,a Council member, said transforming the present MSc courses to fit into the semester system evaluation meant dividing books between the first and the second semester. Some books that were too big to fit into a single semester have now been split into two. The meeting, held to discuss the new syllabuses for various MA and MSc courses, was not without its share of opposition. The new syllabuses have been made hurriedly; some of them have not even been passed by the standing committee hence we had opposed the move, but a majority voted for the new syllabuses, she said.
