Accept CBI probe to come clean on NREGS: Jaiswal to Mayawati

Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal has asked Uttar Pradesh Government to accept CBI probe in MGNREGA if it believes there are no anomalies in implementation of the scheme.

Jaiswal, who was in Lucknow on Friday, said, "If the state government feels that the charges are baseless then they should immediately accept CBI probe in implementation of NREGS in UP. In case there are no anomalies then UP government would get a clean chit before assembly elections."

Denying that Central government was playing any politics by sending letters, he said, "It is the state government, which is in the habit of sending letters. We do not understand why the state government is shying away from CBI probe if they feel that everything is on the right track in the state,"

Responding to a question on shortage of coal supply to power plants, Jaiswal said, "There is no shortage of coal supply to the power plants now. All the thermal power plants in Uttar Pradesh are being ensured proper coal supply. Instead, UP Government is not serious about removing the power crises in the state."

Jaiswal, who is also heading Congress campaign committee for Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, said that on November 2, a team of senior leaders would be visiting Allahabad to select the place from where Rahul Gandhi will launch mass contact program of the party on November 14.
