Accused doc booked after two years of rape

On the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court,the Tarn Taran police today registered a rape case against a doctor,more than two years after the incident. The complainant has also charged him with conducting her forced abortion when she came for treatment.

The accused,identified as Punjab Singh,a resident of Cheema Khurd village in Tarn Taran district,is absconding.

Sources said when the victim,a resident of Valtoha village,had approached the doctor for some health problem two years ago,he allegedly administered a sedative and raped her. Sources said when the woman confronted him,he said that he loved her and wanted to marry her. They alleged that accused continued to abuse the woman on the pretext of marrying her. However,when the woman became pregnant and approached him,asking him to fulfill his promise,he allegedly took her to another doctor and forcefully aborted the child. Sources said the woman later approached the police,but the accused allegedly threatened her family with dire consequences.

However,the woman continued with her efforts to obtain justice. Tarn Taran SSP HS Chahal said the case was registered on the directions of the High Court.
