Irked over delay in judgment,an accused on Thursday threw a slipper at a judge here when the hearing of his case was going on. The hurled footwear,however,missed the target by a whisker.

The additional sessions judge sentenced Dhiru Kotak,accused of illegal construction in his house at Gujarat Housing Board Society in the city,to six months imprisonment.

The case has been on for the last nine years,and irked over this Kotak hurled his slipper at judge D D Rajput. Policemen present in the court,immediately overpowered Kotak and took him into custody.

Throwing of footwear as a sign of protest has gained popularity after Muntazer al-Zaidi,an Iraqi journalist, threw his shoes at then US president George Bush last December at a press conference in Baghdad. There were similar instances in the country when journalist Jarnail Singh threw his shoe at home minister P Chidambaram before the Lok Sabha elections. One Hitesh Chauhan also threw his footwear at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during a public rally in Ahmedabad in April before the Lok Sabha elections.
