Panjab University Students’ Union (PUSU) members have raised questions on the working of university authorities over the recent Boston sexual assault case.

Student union members claimed that PU officials had given permission to some students to accompany the official group to attend a seminar in Harvard University,USA.

Professor R C Sobti,vice-chancellor,Panjab University, however, said,“I have already formed a committee to look into the matter. No student other than the official delegation from the department has been sent by the university.”

Meanwhile, the university issued a clarification stating: “This year a delegation of 23 students was selected after following the due procedure of selection. But only 21 students got visa. This was the only official delegation of UILS. There was no other delegation of students selected either by UILS or the Department of Laws,PU,Chandigarh. It is further clarified that the Dean Students’ Welfare office has also not sponsored any delegation of students to the event this year. It is strongly denied that the university has sponsored any other student to the said event except the delegation of 21 students referred to above. Nitin Jindal’s name is not in the list of 21 students. Also,Barinder Dhillon is not a student of the Law department at present. No bonafide student’s certificate has been issued by UILS or Department of Laws to any outsider.”
