With a 24x7 work cycle, you’d think these corporates have their platter full, but as Chanpreet Singh, an associate head at PricewaterhouseCoopers, points out: “The clock always allows you enough time to do something else you love.” Singh is part of Dilli Ke Dramebaaz, a theatre group that makes its debut today at Manchrang, a festival that packs in four plays in an evening. The others who make up the core team of the group are Siddharth Sharma, a research analyst with McKinsey, Saurabh Sardana from IMRB and Rajeev Sharma from WNS, all of them in their twenties.
“Some of us were on outstation tours even two days before. Gandhi Jayanti being a holiday, we could pack in back-to-back rehearsals,” says Sardana. “The play, called Aaney Bhi Do Yaaron, is a spoof on TRP-hungry channels.” A hackneyed topic, the group has “made up by using interesting presentation techniques,” says Anurag Hans of Manchrang. Aaney Bhi Do Yaaron was selected from 56 plays from across India that had applied for the festival. The four were soon joined by their colleagues who wanted to act, and they now make up the 10-member cast.
“Dilli Ke Dramebaaz started with a hobby of watching plays on weekends. All of us had been involved with theatre in college and a few had even participated in corporate plays; but for most part active theatre had ended when we started working,” says Singh. The group was formed three months ago to plug the creative gap.
