After left-arm paceman Kamran Khan was pulled up for having a suspect action, Rajasthan Royals replaced him with a seamer who had been included just three weeks ago in a BCCI list of bowlers with illegal actions.

Gujarats lanky medium-pacer Amit Singh, who finished with figures of 4-0-9-3 on Tuesday, was among the 30 bowlers named last month by S. Venkataraghavan, former India captain and Test umpire, who heads the boards Umpires Committee. Amit had featured in the illegal-action list in 2008 as well.

Among the 30 in the list, only two are in the IPL. The other, Yogesh Nagar, a middle-order batsman and part-time off-spinner, is part of Delhi Daredevils squad but is yet to play a game.

The Royals management had defended Kamran, with coach Darren Berry saying his success had led to scrutiny. Kamran has come under scrutiny from people because of his success. He has been a wonderful debut performance for us. We have already got in place the appropriate people to deal with the issue. Kamran is a wonderful young man and he has dealt with it with aplomb. He has been fantastic, we will support him and see him as a long-term investment for the Royals. We will get through this period, Berry had said.

Rajasthans high-performance coach Jeremy Snape said about Amit: He has been like a sponge to knowledge. Shane Warne has spent a lot of time working with him at the nets.
