  • The fourth annual convention to strengthen the Right to Information Act saw a brief argument between RTI activists and Central Information Commissioners. After a session on the annual reports by a sub-committee to improve the working of the transparency law, a few RTI activists were prematurely cut short of their “right” to ask questions to a panel headed by Information Commissioner M M Ansari. Despite cries of “foul, foul” and “shame on you” over their microphones, a stubborn Ansari refused to budge. The reason: “It is time for high tea”.

Notorious CICBy: P M Ravindran | 17-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Mr Ansari is notorious amoung RTI activsts as one who is subverting the Act blatantly. Actually his assets should be probed by the CBI to establish how much disproportionately it has grown after he was appointed CIC. It must be remembered that as of now the only ones who can misuse the Act are the ICs who can 'fail' to impose mandatory penalty by accepting bribes to the tune of Rs 15,000 when it is necessary to impose a penalty of Rs 25,000/-
