Actor N Viswanathan dies at 81

Veteran actor and a former professor of English at the St Xavier's College,N Viswanathan,died at his Deshapriya Park residence.

Veteran actor and a former professor of English at the St Xavier’s College,N Viswanathan,died at his Deshapriya Park residence on Wednesday,following a heart attack. He was 81. “He did not suffer from any major ailments. He had his usual tea in the afternoon. Soon,he felt uneasy and collapsed. He died soon after,” said Tarun Dasgupta,a member of the Viswanathan household. Viswanathan had acted in films like Andhakaer Shabdo,Je Jekhane Dariye,Parichay,Dour and Byaticromi among others. He had also featured in Satyajit Ray’s Kanchanjunga.

He had worked as a news reader in Doordarshan,Kolkata. Viswanathan,who was originally from Tamil Nadu,had studied in Kolkata and later made the city his home. He is survived by his filmmaker son Asoke,wife Paromita and daughter Anusuya.
